ITIL and PRINCE2®are administered by AXELOS and PMP® certification is administered by Project Management Institute (PMI). Yes.  This certification is relevant only to professionals working in IT Services or for those who have a keen interest and aspire to get in to Information Technology Service Management (ITSM).

Although no prior IT experience is required to apply for the certification exam, it is recommended that you have some experience working in an IT Service Management (ITSM) environment or service desk and have a basic understanding of ITSM issues.

Though this can vary from person to person, typically 1-2 hours of preparation every day for two months should be enough to pass this certification comfortably.

You can appear for the exam at the end of training course with an Accredited Training Organization (ATO) or Accredited Trainer. You may study privately and then book the exam with one of the ITIL® Examination Institutes.

For higher level certifications such as the Intermediate modules, training via an ATO is mandatory for all candidates.

For ITIL® Foundation exam, the format is as follows
Multiple choice questions
40 questions
26 marks required to pass (out of 40 available) – 65%
60 minutes’ duration
Closed book

You will receive your result within a few weeks of sitting for the exam.

Your ITIL® Foundation certification has a lifelong validity and will never expire.

Once you earn the ITIL® Foundation credential, AXELOS has a clear certification path to advance your IT Service Management career. You can pursue Practitioner, Intermediate, Expert and Master Level certifications as you progress in your career.
