PRINCE2® is recognized the world over as one of the top standard in project management. Having PRINCE2® certification will increase your odds for getting shortlisted for interviews. In today’s competitive job market if you are looking for a Project Managers position, getting PRINCE2® certified can significantly increase your chances of getting a job.

Absolutely not!  The certification is internationally recognized and applicable for management professionals in multiple industries. It is relevant to professionals involved in the design, development and delivery of projects including people working in operations who aspire to build a career in Senior Management Roles.

Though there are no formal pre-requisites for PRINCE2® Foundation Certification, in order to appear for the PRINCE2® Practitioner examination you need to have one of the following credential:

  • PRINCE2® Foundation
  • Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)
  • IPMA Level A® (Certified Projects Director)
  • IPMA Level B® (Certified Senior Project Manager)
  • IPMA Level C® (Certified Project Manager)
  • IPMA Level D® (Certified Project Management Associate)

PRINCE2® Foundation is relatively easy exam and can take 2-3 weeks of preparation to pass.
PRINCE2® Practitioner is more difficult and it takes an average of 2-3 months for preparation.

You can appear for the exam at the end of training course with an Accredited Training Organization (ATO) or Accredited Trainer. You may study privately and then book the exam with one of the PRINCE2® Examination Institutes.

For PRINCE2® Foundation exam, the format is as follows

PRINCE2® Foundation exams can be marked on location after the exam, but this is down to the discretion of the invigilator at the time. The result for PRINCE2® is declared in 48 hours and Certification is issued within 72 hours of appearing in the examination.

The PRINCE2® Foundation certification will not expire. The PRINCE2® Practitioner certification is valid for 5 years before which you need to recertify. The exact expiry date is shown on your PRINCE2® practitioner certificate.

All PRINCE2® Practitioners should be re-registered within three to five calendar years of their original certification. This re-registration comprises a one-hour examination set at the same standard as the Practitioner examination.

Once you earn the PRINCE2®Practitioner credential, AXELOS has a clear certification path to advance your management career. You could pursue PRINCE2® Agile certification followed by PRINCE2® Professional certification. You can read more on this at the AXELOS certifications page.

You can pursue PMP certification online training also as PMP along with PRINCE2 can enhance your  professional value significantly.

PRINCE2® is based on the methodology devised for UK’s government projects and now offered by AXELOS, UK. It gives guidance in a step by step manner on how to organize and run a project.

PMP covers “generally-accepted” knowledge and principles of project management and offered by PMI, USA and based on PMBOK. You can use this knowledge in managing any kind of projects irrespective of the industry – be it construction, engineering, IT etc.
